how does clustering work?

Does anyone know about clustering? cuase it would be wicked sweet if i could use a small cluster as a workstation computer. i know its more expensive cause 3 compies take more power than one, but surfin' the web with 3 processors would be sweet!

applications have to be written for a cluster in order to take advantage of it. you couldn't surf the web with 3 cpus. I've built a couple of these. while some applications can take advantage of the cluster on their own (like pov-ray for rendering or transcode for movie encoding) the real benefit is in multitasking you could surf with one cpu encode a movie with another and be compiling something with the 3rd.without any more noticeable lag then if you were just surfing. what 3 computers do you have? The only thing you need to technically have a cluster is ssh access to all the nodes but I would recommend NIS/NFS aswell with /home being shared for all the nodes. you should also check out openMosix
