How do you import the view from a Linux box onto a Windows box?
Hey Folks,
I'm wondering if it is possible to import the view from my Mandrake 9.2 box (kernel 2.4.22-26) onto a laptop running win98 SE (Uggghhh!!) over my private network, and use the Mandrake box as if I were sat infront of it.
I want the best of both worlds really - to be able to sit in front of the TV and keep the wife company, whilst still being able to learn the intricacies of a superior OS! ;-)
If this is possible, what software do I need on both machines (the Linux box is the more powerful, naturally!)
you can either use a windows X client, Xwin32 for example, or the quicker dirtier option and use vnc to send a image of your main screen to wherever you want to interact with it.
Thanks for the quick reply......my wife takes longer to get a sentence out of her mouth!! ;-)
Your spot on... that's what I want to do!
Ok.....so how do I do the vnc option (Sorry if this is a dumb question)? Is it a form of client / server software? Is it a "freebie" which comes with Linux? can I execute it from my Win box, or do I have to enter the command physically from my Linux box?
All pointers in the right direction are greatly appreciated,
take your pick, and yes it is client / server based., adn very simple to get going. a standard client won't actually show your exact screen, but a second dedicated X server. if you really do wish to see your screen as is, then a more specialised client like krfb will be required.
