how do you edit your virtual console number? (or VT number 3)

My x server has crashed and someone has said that it has to do with my VT being 3, i think that is virtual console, im not sure, but he didnt know how to change it to what he said it should be (7)

this was at the bottom of my /var/log/XFree86.0.log file. Could someone please tell me how to change that to seven or whatever it should be, so i can get my virtual console up and running again?

(--) using VT number 3

Fatal server error:
xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open virtual console 3 (Input/output error)

try man X

or man startx

and see if you can experiment with some of the manual command line switches for X.

I waited all day before stating this in hopes youd get an easy way response, but no luck.
