Font faces are very few on my system. I would like to install Verdana, Arial, etc.

Strangely, I seem to get different lists of available fonts in different application (browsers, editors,...) Why is it so?

What distribution are you running?

If it is Red Hat 8.0 you can create a .fonts directory from your home directory and just place the fonts in there. You will then need to restart X and you will have the fonts available.
