how do I dump mice output in terminal

Hi,

I have been having problems with my touchpad in Ubuntu Hardy. I am trying to debug what is happening and would like a way to dump all the commands being sent by the mouse event* in the terminal. I thought I had come across something like this before, but can't find it.

Something like "sudo cat /dev/input/mice", but that displays something more intelligible than symbols.

Try xev: run xev from the terminal. Only dumps when you mouse over the Event Tester, but it works.

Ah, thanks. That was what I was looking for. Unfortunately, it didn't tell me what is going wrong with my mouse, but that is a question for the Ubuntu devs.
