How do I create a backup?
Hi,
I am going to try and install Windows 98 SE on my machine, but I know that when i do my Linux will be gone. I want to create a backup of my Linux mahine (everything if possible). I do not know how to do this, which files I will need, or anything. Can someone please help, as I am trying to do this today? |
Personally I'd just back up my home directory since that has all my files, everything else is just the linux OS and programs I've installed. So long as you have the installation CDs for your distro of choice, then it'll be a case of reinstalling it, plus any programs you installed yourself.
But your question is fairly subjective - I personally don't see the point of backing up the entire partition(s) unless you've just finished an LFS :) Good luck Steve |
Thanks Steve, but how would I go about backing up my home folder? I really dont even know how to do that... Help someone?

You might want to have a look at the excellent Partimage It'll easily backup any partition for you. You might also want to have a look at Mondo Rescue

Linux Geek, I downloaded Partimage, but i cant seem to get it running. It is a tar.bz2 file, so how do I open it?
