Question How do I clear a stale pts session after vncserver?

I use vnc through ssh on my slackware box.

When I kill the vncserver that I was using it kills vncserver however the session still remains in a '?' state.

When I do the same on my mandrake box the session actually clears.

I am sure it is something simple however I have been unable to find any information via google regarding this particular behavior.

So can anyone tell me how to clear the pts session after killing the vncserver?
