how can I replace 1 file on a bootable cd?

What is/are the procedures to replace 1 file on a bootable cd?

I read somewhere I'd have to write all the files to disk then edit the file to be changed and then save the lot to a cd that is made bootable but I can't visualize the different steps and their order.

Thank you for your help.

Have a look at the REAMDE of the recovery is possible liveCD. It's
the most concise tutorial for CD re-mastering I've ever seen ;}
