How can i make my mandrake boot faster?

I am using mandrake 9.2 and it boots slower than winxp pro! Is there a way i can make mandrake boot faster?Shall i remove some applications loading @ startup? If yes which ones i don't really need? I am using my linux 4 the usual stuff (web , divx movie making , etc) and i am planning to have dsl in about a month.Any ideas?
