how can i compile my own modules as part of the kernel?

hi there,
i'd like to know how can i compile my own modules into the kernel using "make menuconfig". i want to compile my modules as modules itself (corresponding to the "M" option in make menuconfig), not as part of the kernel. i've heard that it can be done by editing the Makefiles and some config files(like .config in source tree), but dont know how to do it EXACTLY. i am using 2.6 kernel(fc7). pl help ...

where from come this 'own modules'?
Are there a piece of a driver or are they written by Your self?

the modules are written by myself and works well with "insmod"ing.
