How can I authenticate Linux against SUN One DS?

Hi everybody.

I would like to know if it is possible to authenticate Linux Server (Red Hat and Suse) against Sun One Directory Server installed on a Solaris Server?.

How can be done this?.

What is needed on Linux server to make this possible, packages, configuration,..?.

authenticate a server? why?
authenticate users, easily, use NIS [ used to be Sun's YP, it is the authentication scheme used in Sun's Directory server ]
