hostname file entry

hey,

ve got a question, when i add a new computer with IP 134.157.122.44 with gplant hostname in solarn.net domain. The other computers on the same network will also know this new computer under the names of moon1 or jupiter4. What entry do i have to put into the host file ?

you can put what ever you want really -- this hosts file is really only used to set host names when DNS is not available, the host does not have a DNS name, or a service on the box requires a server name. You can add all 3 or just the main one.

I assume you are talking about /etc/hosts and NOT /etc/host which does not exist on my box

Michael.
