hosting and ping samba server name as well as mail server name simultaneously
 

Hi folks

I have a linux server installed as a samba server winxp clients, in this server I have installed postfix too, I have goven name for this server as server1 and for postfix I have changed the hostname as mail.server1.com. when I try to ping the server from winxp client ping server1 is triough, but when I try ping mail.server1.com, it's not pinging, where should I change the configuration so that I can configure smtp and pop3 server as mail.server1.com in server look up. any postfix related configuration details are welcome.

You need to setup a DNS server along with MX records so your network knows how to identify machines with names on your network.

Thanks for your reply... with this I can move one step up in my project but still I don't know what is Mx record and How I have to configure that.
