host name problem debian 3.1


Hi
I have recently booted back in to my debian system after a long time off it and when i open a terminal i am greeted with "master1@none" the problem i have is it should say "master1@celeron" i tried becoming root and just doing "hostname celeron" which only works untill i reboot the machine then i am back to square 1.Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks a million,I remember when i first started using linux i have come a long way,believe it or not.I wonder how far i have to go.
