High Resolution Timer over 1000hz

I have a dual quad core xeon 5345 server. I installed Ubuntu 7.10 Server edition. I recompiled the 2.6.22 kernel SMP from kernel.org with the ck1 patch to enable 10,000hz timer resolution. Everything went well with no compile errors, I enabled the 10,000hz and disabled (also re-enabled on another recompile) dynamic ticks. My application was still only running at about 1,000hz. Is there something I am missing here? I know other people have successfully ran this application at 2,000hz. How can I check my system to see if it is truly running at 10,000hz? Should I be using a different Distro? My hardware has hpet support and it is quite powerful, I should be able to achieve this.
