high res screenshots

have somewhat major problem
for my multimedia subject we had to design a some random thing so i choose to use my ubuntu desktop with compiz and all of the that
my problem is that i need to be able to take high resolution screenshots by high re anything over 300 dpi. now i can only get 72 dpi using the built in screeen capturing program in gnome so i need a better one so my questiion is does any one know of any software that will allow me to take hight resolution screen shots of my ubuntu desktop

i don't understand... what are you trying to get out of this? there's only so much information on the screen, one pixel is as small as you can go, it's not like real life photography. if your screen is 1200x1600 then that's all the information you can get... a screenshot is a screenshot...

what i want is a somewhat high quality picture of my desktop i was happy with the 72 dpi one i shot but my teacher is a tard and wanted 300 dpi for some reason when it dosen't need to been my desktop is running at 1680 by 1050

Strange... It does not make sense to take "high quality" picture of your desktop. You get a screen shoot which has exactly the same resolution as your desktop.

But if your teacher wants that the picture has exactly 300 dpi, your can fix it in Gimp. Take a screen shoot, open it in Gimp, go to Image menu, select Scale image and set X & Y resolution to 300 dpi.
