Hibernate in Linux?

In windows there's a mode that allow me to like-shutdown the computer, but not really shut it down...

I guess you know what I mean, to make the computer like silent and then when u thouch it, it's back up and noisy again :S

Well I've upgraded from windows to linux, and I would like to know how can I hibernate in linux aswell... thanks guys.

You have to configure your system to support acpi. Then you will have a command to suspend on ram, but I think that depends on your distro. See http://www.columbia.edu/~ariel/acpi/acpi_howto.txt.
