the realplay is probably in /usr/bin

to verify this in a terminal type this..

ls /usr/bin/realplay

it should output the same thing without the ls if it's there.

now if it's there type this..

cd /usr/bin

now type this..

ldd realplay

you will see a list of the library files used by realplayer.

David,

Where did you get the rpm file from? Is it available
through the redhat site? If yes, can you please give
me the url?

Thanks.

http://www.real.com

go to the site, lookaround the left side of the page for the blue button that says Download Now, It's the first one that is in the section where it says more than just a player.

then the next page has a small grey button with previous player versions on it.

then the next page has a link to realplayer 8 basic

Just click on OS and select UNIX

this should bring up another form where you fill it out and select Linux 2.xx RPM

they hid it I guess so you would buy one of the others.

Thanks. Yes, it was pretty much hidden. I'll try the
installtion some time later and will let you know about
the outcome. They say they have not tested it for kernel>2.2,
I hope it'll work with higher kernels. I think I have a 2.4.x
kernel.

it works on the new kernels.

the plugin will also install to /usr/lib/netscape/plugins

if you are using mozilla link the plugin file to mozilla.

ln -s /usr/lib/netscape/plugins/rpnp.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/rpnp.so

Talking

I installed Realplayer 8 using the rpm file
available from www.real.com on Redhat 7.1

Everything is working fine. With DSL modem,
my Linux box is rocking...

Thanks for the input.

http://www6.software.ibm.com/dl/dklx130/dklx130-p,
If you don't want to register for thr IBM one you can try this one (get version 1.3),

I have installed rp8 and it does not operated properly. Videos either have error messages that componets are missing or when I go to an rp site (music video) the audio is distorted. I have played audio cd's without problem. Other sounds play fine also.

jd

try changing some of the settings, like the quality / speed stuff see if it helps.

I got java from sun, installed it in /usr/local

then I linked to it in my plugins folders of my browsers.
