Help with Large DUMP file.
Hello,
I have made an full backup of a partition using Dump, on RHEL. At the time I did not notice the size of the dump file, until too late. My problem now is I need to restore some imnportant info from that dump. The dump file is a little over 6Gb in size. The Restore command cannot read it, (wont initialize symbol table). So I copied it across the network to a Solaris mcahine, and tried ufsrestore. Same problem. From what I have read, this is a problem with the size of the file to be restored. My questions are: Are there any util's that can handle a huge dump? Is there a way to split the file into smaller pieces? Is there any other way of approaching this problem? Thanks |
There is the program "split". That will part your dump into chunks. Extracting your data from those will be a mighty task (read: near impossible except for file system exerts). Sorry, no answers for your other questions.
