HELP: Session lasted for only less than 10 seconds.

I just set up a fresh installation of RedHat on a company computer and made a company user. It has been working for the past week, but now (after I made a backup image of the system), I get an error when logging into the company user.

It says "Your session only lasted for less than 10 seconds." blah blah, some stuff about disk space which isn't the issue because there's plenty. In the xsession errors, there are

stty: standard input: Inappropriate ioctl for device
xsetroot: unable to open display (display info blahblah)
xset: unable to open display...

yeah it goes through all the xserver display errors. I've tried changing the ownership of my ICEauthority and home directory, I've changed the permissions on lots of things to no avail, and now the only way I can get (graphically) into the company user is to use Reflections/VNC/whatever from my own laptop.

Anyone have any ideas?
