I have a redhat 7.2 box, want to upgrade to RH 7.3, one thing I saw in the Release Notes was:
1) You may remove Ximian GNOME from your Red Hat Linux system prior to upgrading Red Hat Linux.
I have Ximian GNOME installed right now. All is running well, I just want to un-install Ximian Gnome. I searched Ximians site and here and no luck. Last thing I want it to mess it up...
I wanted to try KDE , heard it was a little better..
You really dont want to uninstall GNOME, as many libraries that are used to run it are also used to allow you to run GNOME apps under another desktop session, such as KDE or Blackbox.
I personally like KDE, but it is not as fast as GNOME or Blackbox. It has a lot more eye candy.
Probably the easiest way to remove an app is with Red Hats RPM package manager. Just run it and select all the GNOME items, but do it from within another desktop environment.
My question is why you need to actually remove it. Does it say? I know other people who have upgraded from RH 7.2 to 7.3 without having to remove GNOME.
