Help-release version

Dear friends

Hope you are using different distros with different version

I have worked on SuSe, Mandrake,Redhat and fedora distros.

Now i have written a program which gives you the release version of the particular distribution...like redhat 7.3 or FedoraCore 1 like this.

The logic behind this is to read the file named /etc/redhat-release or /etc/SuSE-release file which gives u info abt release.

So now i want the name of the file which gives the release version which can be searched in /etc directory for the distributions except SuSE,Mandrake,Redhat and Fedora.

Please give me the name of the file so that i can include that into my program.

I have seen that there are lot of distributions forums in this site so that i can get the name of the files in all distributions.

For Slackware it's: /etc/slackware-version
