Normally a user will post inquires to their problems or issue related to Gnu/Linux. One on one mentoring is not something we encourage since the purpose of LQ is to help everyone by intercommunication between members via responses to queries.

You could contact a local LUG or other users groups in your area;That way you could interact with several users within the group.

Anytime you post on the normal forums, normal helpers ought to assist you when they can. Most of the people offer good advice and not too critical if you ask stupid questions. Hey, we all have asked stupid questions.

I only have skype when I have access to wifi and that is a bit limited. My corporate firewall prevents almost everything. Wonder why they let me on LQ sometimes.

start to install Linux on Virtual Machine and just play with it, if you make mistake just delete the VM and start all over again.

Making mistake is quite inevitable, and the best part of it; that's the best time to learn.

If you got stuck, this great community would be able to help.

Experience is the best teacher, i'm quite sure you know that.

Seriously, this is the best way to learn. I can't tell you how many VMs I've trashed because I wanted to see what would happen with a particular configuration.

Reading is good too, but experience puts what is read into action (for good or ill).

Yes, and if you don't have a second device to then try the VMs and live for awhile first to get your feet wet...

hi vmccord, for me VM really works, because I can learn scripting, configurations and other experimentation that cross my mind.

I don't have to worry if i've screwed up the whole system, i will just trashed it then start all over again.

But what I did i will make a copy of the full and working VM without anything,so if I screwed up the VM i'm practicing.

I will just copy over the backup and play again.

Practice, read, practice, read and screw up the system .. hehehe...

Hi,

In actuality it would be better to find out the remedy or solution to why the system borked and learn to repair by investigation. Shotgunning will teach you how to continually reinstall the VM. Step through the script/program via debug techniques to hopefully open paths to solutions that could help you to improve your skills therefore learn.

I agree that VMs' are useful by allowing one to have the means to install various systems to experiment with and learn about that system. Good example would be ARM, you can learn or test bed a ARM system before actually investing. Plus software generation would be faster on a good testbed.
