I have RH 7.1... Everything is (was) installed and working fine... tried to run X and it crashed... i rebooted and can't login as user or root. It takes the name and password and just brings me back to login screen... I tried doing fsck, but it says something about superblock. Please Help!!!!

Try using the 'single' option at the LILO prompt. So if you're linux image was called 'linux' you would use
Code:
LILO: linux single
IIRC Redhat drops you straight into a root shell. If you can't login how did you try running fsck???

You can only run fsck on a file system that isn't mounted, otherwise you might get some 'interesting' results. If you need to fsck your root filesystem you will need to boot from a disk (not one that mounts your root fs!!) and then run fsck....

HTH

Jamie...

run e2fsck and specify another superblock. its sposed to be at 8193*n, so its next at 16385 etc:
"e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/(device)"
dump to /lost+found and try to resurrect fstab etc from lookin at the contents.
