Help getting IPMI patches into kernel
I need to setup and configure IPMI on 2 boxes that run Centos5.1 x86_64. The docs that came with the driver are very sparse and don't really give any info about why you are doing the steps they lay out. Besides they say go get the latest 2.6.8 kernel source so I am already skeptical.
The instructions say to get your kernel source then download these openipmi patches. Actually the ones in the docs were different on a couple of occasions but these are what is listed for the 2.6.18 kernel on the download site.
linux-i2c-2.6.18-v39.1.diff
linux-i2c-i801-2.6.18-v39.1.diff
linux-ipmi-2.6.18-v39.1.diff
linux-ipmiserial-2.6.18-v39.1.diff
linux-ipmismb-2.6.18-v39.1.diff
linux-nmi-2.6.18-v39.1.diff
linux-serial-2.6.18-v39.1.diff
patches.tar.gz
series
The patches zip has MANY other patches inside and I do not know about the series file.
Anyway I am to apply these patches and then build a new kernel and its modules.
Has anyone gotten IPMI to work in your kernel? Can someone shed some light on my situation. I have built kernels before so that is no big deal but I hate patching a kernel when I don't consistent documentation. Besides I thought I was installing a driver and not patching one.
thanks,
Doug
