Exclamation Have mercy! Help a college student!

Hello all. I have a final essay in one of my computer classes here at Ball State University regarding Linux/Unix, and I thought you all might be able to help. Here's my essay topic:

Relate the 5 components of a modern operating system to the Linux/Unix OS. (That is, explain using Linux/Unix specific terminology the User Interface, File Management, Device Management, Memory Management, and Processor Management).

Any help is much appreciated. I have to write three pages (single-space), so I'd appreciate links, explanations, etc. I could have done this same topic on Windows 2000, but I thought it'd be much more intersting to do it on Linux/Unix. Thanks in advance.

Isn't this why they call it homework and research, for you to do it yourself?

From our rules just to let you know:

" Do not expect LQ members to do your homework - you will learn much more by doing it yourself."

With that in mind, I would also like to express to you that you should use better and more helpful thread titles.

Regards and good luck with your paper.

Here are some good resources for you. You should find some of the explanations you need in there:

http://www.icon.co.za/~psheer/book/rute.html.gz
http://www.faqs.org/docs/linux_intro/index.html
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/2.2/fhs-2.html
http://www.xml.com/ldd/chapter/book/
http://www.tldp.org/guides.html

Hope that helps some.
