I would like to set up a large file server, using SATA II RAID. This machine would be mainly for storage ofaudio and video, and would be accessed almost always by me, though occasionally by maybe 2 or 3 other people at most at one time. I'd like to go for somewhere around 2 TB, and would do sharing via NFS and occasionally Samba.
I've looked around for RAID controllers, and found this
article on Tom's Hardware that looks interesting. I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with one of those or any other SATA II RAID controllers? What would you recommend?
Also, what would you recommend for other hardware? I'm thinking I'd like to keep this kind of compact (well, relatively), so I was considering go with a mini-itx motherboard, maybe something around 1.5 GHz, with about 512 MB RAM. This box will probably not do much more than serve files.
Thanks for any insight.
