hardware issues
Hello!
Recently I installed Mandrake 8.2. But I have some problems with hardware. Hard disk. I cannot enter windows partitions as normal user. I get the following error message: "Could not enter directory /mnt/windowsc" for C:\ and "Could not enter directory /mnt/windowsd" for D:\. As root I can do everything. So what's wrong? CD. It works fine, but I'd like to know how to use XMMS for Audio CDs instead of Noatun. I mean, Noatun finds Audio files on a CD automatically, but I don't know which location to search for these files in XMMS (you know, CDs cannot be mounted). Any suggestions? CD-Burner. When I installed Mandrake 8.2 for the first time, I didn't install a lot of software so later I installed it again with almost everything. After first installation I had an option in Mandrake Control Ceneter to customize my CD-Burner (so it was probably autodetected), but after second, I didn't have it anymore. So now I cannot burn CDs. Do I need to repeat the first installation If I want Mandrake to autodetect my burner or is there another option? I would be happy if I get a solution to any of these issues. Thank you! Bye |
Your /mnt/windows problem is most likely your user dosent have the correct permissions to access it if you can access it as root.
As for your Cd burning problem, have you tried logging into X as root & configuring it from there, I remember I had to pick my CD-RW when I was setting it up using gnomecdroast, I cant confirm the last bit as I'm having problems with Linux myself but as soon as I get it back up & running I'll try help you with your CD-RW problem's. |

To get the right permission for all users, log as root, unmount the diectories (umount /mnt/windowsc), change attributes (give all to all users) and the mount them again (mount /mnt/windowsc). Quote:

Xmms will play audio cd's fine, you have to go into the preferences and point it at the location of your drive first.
