hard lockup on shutdown

I'm using rh 7.3. If I use the GUI or xterm to shutdown I get a lock up with a blinking curser that does not respond to control+alt+delete. I've got to kill the box to exit. Any assistance is much appreciated

It's an X Windows client-server sync bug and exists in Redhat 8.0 too.

Best to shut down X Windows by logging out and then do 'poweroff' from the command line.

I did a reinstall of / just for kicks and it's shutting down fine now. I think I had a corrupted file. Thanks for the input Bert
