Hard Freeze on boot between setting clock and host name
Not sure where to post it...I think it would apply to any distro possibly and I can't pin it down to hardware, so be general so trying here.
I have a hard drive install of PCLOS 2007. Since installation, every 2-4 boots, it will freeze up totally right after setting the clock and before setting the hostname. This is a hard freeze, no keyboard, num lock no response, ctrl alt del ditto. I need to use the reset button.
Machine was originally setup with DHCP (intermittent freeze) switched to static IP, still intermittent freeze. It is on a wired router. Have an install of debian for ages on same machine, no probs. Ditto windows though rarely boot windows. This happens on both cold boots in the morning say and also warm boots between distros.
Ideas on where to look? Runs absolutely fine, no freezes or hiccups once booted.
well when you change the date and time it has to talk to bios and set them and we all know linux does not do a great job of reading bios. as far as host name not a clue. unless you are booting from net support.
