Hard disk failure-Sector ID not found

i got a hard disk which has failed for some reason.
this disk has got some valuable data in it.
i connected this faulty disk as a secondary one in a box
in which linux 7.2 is already installed.
while booting the kernel logs some messages like
{Drive Ready seek Complete error}
{Invalid SectorID}
please reply on this regard
if u have any idea of the error message.
normally i have seen this message when there is any read fault in
the cdrom drive but this is the first time iam facing with a hard disk.
hope a good reply from ur side
regards
Eshwar

It sounds like your hard drive is dead

If the data on it is *that* valuable I would remove it from your machine, dont' attempt any more recovery and send it to a professional data recovery service.

The more you play with it the less likely you'll get something useful back from it. It may be that the controller on the drive has died (the electronics on the back) and the platters are fine, but even if that's the case you'll still need to send it to someone who can take the drive apart safely.

Slick.
