haldaemon cannot start

Hi! I have Fedora 7 newly installed (new motherboard too) and found that haldaemon cannot start. When I
/etc/rc.d/init.d/haldaemon start
I got [FAILED]. When I try to start hald manually by
hald --daemon=yes --verbose=yes
I got 3 messages, last one is "Becoming a daemon". But when I
ps aux | grep hald
I did not see the process. When I
hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes
I got lots of messages but last one is "*** [DIE] ...Unable to open cache /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache"

Can anyone please help? Thanks

Is it causing a problem with hardware? If the hardware is working then what difference does it make? I was using a distribution that had errors during startup related to the hal daemon but all of the hardware worked fine so it didn't matter.

You know that Fedora Core is a development distribution don't you? That means that you are basically running alpha software. If you want things to work more reliably use a stable distribution.
