Grub, SW RAID and Backups
So... I installed Fedora 13 about a month ago. I repurposed a second drive and wanted to create a RAID array for the install. After a few failed attempts at porting the install to the array I decided just to reinstall. First, the Fedora partitioner crashed creating the array. So I used fdisk and mdadm in the live CD to manually partition the drives and create the array. Then I tried installing Fedora. It got to the point where it was setting up the MBR I guess and then never finished. I mounted the arrays and could see all the files. So I tried rebooting. The system failed to boot. I booted back to the live CD and attempted to manually create the MBR via grub but that failed. Any time I tried running a command against either the array or the partition directly on disk, grub would sit there and churn. I assume that the Fedora installer was sitting there waiting for a hung grub to come back.
So.... is it possible to put Fedora on SW RAID? I know I have done it with an earlier version of Ubuntu but I'd rather run Fedora. If not, What are some recommendations for backing up thethe / and /boot partitions? I don't necessarily need the system up 24/7 but I do want to be able to restore it fairly quickly.
