GRUB stage 1.5 error 17
Ok, so I'm a complete novice with linux, so I figured I'd try it out. I get Ubuntu, use it for a while, get tired of it, so I reformat the partitions that I used to install Ubuntu on. My partition layout is like so:
/dev/sda1 - fat32 - Windows recovery - 4GB /dev/sda2 - ntfs - Windows XP Media Center install - 100GB /dev/sda3 - extended /dev/sda5 - ntfs - Stuff - 32GB /dev/sda4 - fat32 - more stuff - 50GB sda3 & sda5 were my previous linux install. Now, when I turn on my computer, I get Grub loading stage1.5 error 17. . I do not have access to an XP install disk to go to recovery and type fixmbr. This is a pretty big problem and I really need help with it. Thanks |
Have a look at the SystemRescue liveCD - I think that has a tool that might do what you want.
Also I think any Win2k or XP CD will do - doesn't have to be "yours". You could always find an even older system and use "fdisk /mbr". Still works - up to XP. |
Thanks
Thanks, I managed to get my hands on an XP setup CD, and used fixmbr, which didn't work, so then i used bootcfg /rebuild, and it works just fine now. Thanks again
