Lightbulb Grub


Hi guys!

Could you please advice me how to rewrite GRUB? I mean how to rewrite GRUB into the MBR.

Could you tell us where it is currently installed? You will likely need to make some repairs, depending on where it is right now. Also, please post your /boot/grub/menu.lst file here.

I am not sure but why does Grub need to be in the MBR mine is just in /boot along with my kernal.

for installing grub on mbr execute this command
"grub-install /dev/hd?"
for installing grub on primary master harddrive
"grub-install /dev/hda"

First try installing it on a floppy:

grub-install /dev/fd0

then if it boots and you're happy with it, install it on your IDE

grub-install /dev/hda

or SCSI:

grub-install /dev/sda

If it doesn't work on the floppy it won't work on the harddisk. If it does work, well then you have a spare bootdisk.
