Graphical Login

Well, I seem to be having another problem. I just deleted GNOME and installed WindowMaker. Everything seems to run fine, I'm able to start-up X without any problems, etc. But when I change my boot up to init 5 for a graphical login, it drops to a regular text login and says something to the affect of:

XINIT timeout, respawning too fast, disable for 5 minutes.

This keeps happening unless I reboot into init 3. I checked all my logs and can find no real error. If anyone can please help, I'd forever be in your dept!

Thanks!

I believe the default login screen is part of gnome, kde also has one

so it may be gone.

Do you or anyone else use a graphical login without using GNOME or KDE?

your /etc/inittab file is where the login program is called

i have this

x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

you may want to try and edit your /etc/sysconfig/desktop file like this

DESKTOP="AnotherLevel"

this will make it use xdm instead of gdm which is gone

or if you have kde use kdm by putting in "KDE"

or replace prefdm -nodaemon with xdm -nodaemon in the inittab file

the last one may be the easiest / best way
