Graduation project ideas

My high school requires us to complete a "graduation project" to graduate. It is pretty much freeform, so i wanted to do something linux/programming oriented. I've got about 1 year to finish it. Languages/concepts i already know atleast somewhat are : PHP, C/C++, (My|Postgre)SQL, just started GTK+/GTK--, some Perl a long time ago, Java, very little Xlib but some (i can manage to create a simple window and run the loop), Win32 API, some OpenGL a little while ago, 3D Modelling but im horrible at it, bash scripting, general linux stuff, ...

So, anyone got any ideas? I don't want to be redundant and do something someone's already done. I was thinking a low-resource but high-functionality file manager but then i read a forum about Evidence and Tux Commander (neither of which i've gotten to compile on my Debian Woody system) so i thought maybe not.

i made a fully functional oscilloscope if that'd take you off in that direction.... depending on what your course has contained, I also thought about developing a visual concurrency modelling tool in GTK / C++. Maybe that's too dry for you. i still think it'd be a cool project from a theoretical computing angle. http://www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk/~sgm/cs237/

Oh and btw, there is only _one_ programming course at our high school, and i already know C++ better than people coming out of it. This project is not just for a particular subject
