gnome screen is blank
Hello,
I had gnome running smoothly. Person X pressed the power button. Next time I boot up I get the gnome desktop manager screen as usual. I login and the splash screen comes up and the icons flash up as usual - but then a blank screen! The only thing I can do is ctrl-alt-backspace to log out! Help! -rob |
Is there anything ominous in your X log files? Look in /var/log/XFree86.?.log. Do you have more than one user? If so, does this happen with all of them?

Hi,
Thanks for a response. I checked my X log files - nothing out of the ordinary. I have 2 users (one root and one other account) and they both do the same thing. I Ctrl-Alt-F1 and type startx -- :1 and kde comes up! Of course gdm is already running (blank) and so I get an error msg trying to start gnome. I am also working on finding out what is going on. ciao, -rob |
