Hey!

When I log into my personal GNOME account using the Graphical Login Screen, one of two things will happen:

1: The computer will stop repsonding immediately and not log in
2: The computer will finish logging in but after clicking once on anything (the desktop, the Main Menu, or anything else)

However, when I login to my personal account with KDE, the computer will not freeze. Linux will start up regularly in KDE mode and will never freeze.

GNOME also freezes when I open large image files or other large files.

Wht particularly concerns me is that the ROOT acount will freeze in both GNOME and KDE with the same problems as my personal account.

Can anyone help?

You need to get some error messages to find something to feed into Google. Have a look in /var/log/syslog or one of the Xfree logs.

Also try removing .gnome, .gnome2 and .gconf and other gnome config directories and files in your home dir.
