Gnome error i think?


ok when i was logging on before onto my computer it would give my computer name my IP.. which was ok i gues.. but it stopped working.. im using a cable modem and it set to pick up my ip.. but it was just returning this error.. i change my computer name from localhost.localhostdomain
to Blah and i also dissabled DNS.. but now when my computer startes up it gives me a error to checkt
/etc/hosts
what should i do.. to fix this error from poping up?

Your /etc/hosts file probably has this

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost


if you did not change it

other hosts on your lan can be put in in the same format


ip hostname.domain nickname



you could set it up from netcfg

i ran linuxconf and disabled DNS
since im my only comp on the net.. and i called my hostname Blah
i also added this to my host
127.0.0.1 Blah localhost
i get no errors every thing works fine now.. will this do?
aslo is there a way to figure out my ip in linux im used to using winipcfg in windows

ifconfig

it can be ued to see the settings or change them


like if you want to see it just ifconfig will show all interfaces

ifconfig eth0 will show eth0 info

ifconfig 192.168.0.215 netmask 255.255.255.128

will set the ip

ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492 will set the MaxMTU


etc, etc, etc....
