gnome desktop camera icon

Hi all. Running debian sarge, using gnome, 2.8.1
I read enough to be able to mount camera (usb-storage type) and is working fine even from user logins.
When I mount the camera, (user$ mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera), there is a desktop icon that appears.
I would like this to automagically happen by plugging in the device and pressing the cameras button to send to PC, as opposed to doing CLI stuff.

Thank you for any help, and if you can even give me a sense of direction that would be great, I like discovering and learning. :-)

Well...I think it depends on your camera. A lot of cameras don't have send-to-pc buttons (or otherwise) directly on the camera but rely on the computer to do the requesting.

I suppose there's a way to monitor messages that come from usb and check for when the camera sends the "Send to PC" command, but I don't know how to do it.
I know that you can, however, watch system events by using the "tail" command. Eg:
Code:
tail -f /var/log/messages
That will display all the things that the system notices, being updated about every 3 seconds. (You have to use CTRL+C to get out of it)

Btw, you don't need to do that big long command every time you mount your camera: Use /etc/fstab.
Just follow the syntax of the items that're already in there to add a new line for your camera.
Also, there's a pretty helpful manpage for fstab.
Code:
man fstab
and
Code:
man mount
After you add that line to fstab for your camera, you can mount/umount it just by
Code:
mount /mnt/camera
Also, if you add the camera to fstab, it should appear in Gnome's right-click menu like the other drives do.
