Gnome applets keep crashing in F10
hello
my gnome applets keep crashing in Fedora 10_64 i thought it was the buggy kernel that it shipped with but the update for that came out and that crashing thing went away my file browser and firefox 3.0.11 also seem to crash regular would anyone have any thoughts on how to remedy this? one post in another forum suggested that the .gnome / .gnome2 / .metacity files may be the culprit and that deleting them would cause Gnome to regenerate fresh ones at reboot does this sound right? I think I read somewhere that it may be a video driver or maybe i have just been reading too many posts and have them confused anyways thank you |
what web pages dose it crash on .there was a bug in the default fedora flash plugin for the 64bit OS . Have you installed the new 64 bit flash plugin ?

alritght Firefox crashes reandomly when hitting forward or back or any radio button inside the web page
not exactly website specific i have the adobe flash libflashplayer.so in the /lib64/mozilla/plugins folder its a little glitchy on Fullscreen, but ok now the gnome applet crashing is an ongoing every ten min thing and its always the 'workplace switcher' the 'show desktop' and 'window list' that crash oh yea and since i posted the first part of this thread the new updated kernel crashed the whole thing is just a little flakey on my gnome panel i have the shortcuts to launch different apps they all worked when i put them there now the sometimes work sometimes not just kinda .......... dang annoying after starting this thread i saw in the similar threads : back in 05 someone runnig FC4 had a similar problem and deleted thes files and found that that helped , kinda .gconfd .gnome .gnome2_private .gnome_private .gqviewrc .gtkrc-1.2-gnome2 .gconf .gnome2 .gnome-desktop .nautilus these files will regen after reboot rite? may have to repopulate my shortcuts and stuff but shouldnt make large problems rite? Edit ok i moved the files in my home folder that were listed above i just made a folder named gnomecrap and put them there restarted F10 came up and the login/user signin screen wasnt there pushed pwer button and the start/restart/hibernate screen came up I chose restart ok now i can log back in sure enuff all my little launchers are gone from gnome panels got em all in place the same three applets crash and now when firefox crashed it logged me out back to sign in screen dang it |
the .gnome files in your home file ARE safe to remove .But your settings will be reset
first try making a new user and see if the NEW user has the same problems PS. every folder and most files in your home folder beginning with a " . " - dot -( hidden ) will be auto remade if deleted what driver are you using for your 3d card and is it ati or nvidia if ati there drivers are p.o.s. (< not plight words ) and may be the problen if ati i would use the fglx driver that the community has made ( opensource driver)and not ati's catalysis. also have you turned on the "compiz" desktop affects , if the 3d driver's config file(xorg.conf) is wrong that could cause the problems. |
how would i find out which drivers i am using?
|
what is your card and what did you install ?
to find out what your 3d card is run this in the terminal Code:
lspci | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2) |
lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) |
i am surprised you have a built in pseudo 3d chip on the mobo with a 64 bit computer ,and not a full 3d card .
well fedora will have selected to use the intel driver . That is built in to fedora . you might want to take a look at this post about intel chips http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=207320 |
ah man
