Gnome and KDE .. How they work together?

Hello

I use KDE as default package and sometimes I run programs from Gnome package. When KDE is default pacakge, GNOME is also running or not?

Also When I run KDE and open some application from Gnome package it says that Gnome is not running.

Therefore, How KDE and GNOME works together?

Thanks

KDE & GNOME provide two different kinds of environment....
you can enter into just one of them at a time.....

GNOME and KDE are compatible with each other because they use shared libraries (ie the libraries used by GNOME to run its programs can also be used by KDE). In fact, any window manager/program can access these libraries to support various other window managers and program architectures. So, no, GNOME does not have to be "open" to run GNOME programs, you just need access to the shared libraries.

Well the window manager / desktop environment you're using doesn't access the GNOME shared libraries (unless you're using GNOME of course); only GNOME applications use them.

It's possible to run GNOME applicatons under KDE and the other way round because the desktop environments they provide are not the same thing as the libraries that underpin them.
