Gnome 2.0 workspace

How can I put an application automatically (script based) into a gnome workspace? I actually have the workspace switcher 1.0 running. Do I need sawfish or metacity to do it? If it is impossible with gnome (I can't believe it), is it possible to put applications during the login into KDE workspaces?
TIA, Uwe
