glibc


how do I find out what version of glibc I have

Generally two ways:

1) execute: /lib/libc.so.6
It's output has the version somewhere

2) execute: ls /lib/libc*

output could look like:
/lib/libc-2.2.4.so /lib/libcom_err.so.2.0
/lib/libc.so.6 /lib/libcrypt-2.2.4.so
/lib/libcom_err.so.2 /lib/libcrypt.so.1

From that you can see the machine is running Glibc-2.2.4

oh and of course you could query your distribution's package manager. How to do that I have no idea (I don't use any of the 'conventional' distribution's out there). I just gave the universal way that'll work on any Linux system no matter what it is.
