Ghostview
 

Hi,
I am very new to Linux, I just installed it in my partitioned Dell desktop. I need to work on Latex in Linux. Somehow when I want to see .ps files generated by Latex, it says no prgram found to view it. This means I don't have Ghostview in Linux or what?
Please explain me with leaset technical words, how to view .ps files?

It would help if you would post your distribution and what GUI you are using. Assuming that you are using KDE, then on most distributions the way to view .ps files is this:

Start the control center program (kcontrol).
Click on KDE components
Click on File associations
Click on the + beside applications
Click on postscript

In the right hand panel you should have a list of candidate programs to view .ps files. You want kghostview. The program at the top of the list is the one that KDE will use so move kghostview to the top of the list.

Click on Apply

If you are using GNOME then you want to open up Nautilus and type "preferences:///" in the address bar. Then press "advanced" followed by "File types and programs". You should be able to work your way around from there.

Thank you for reply. I am usin GNOME. As suggested by Ion, I went upto "File types and programs". I also found the ghostview over there, but there are so many windows and commands are there, I coudln't figured it out the way to make gv working.
