getting started with postgresql

Have the same issues as others, installed Fedora core 5 and now want postgresql with pgadmin up and running. On Windows this was so easy. Went to postgresql.org for installation tutorial, no help: "Doing so is not hard and it can be a good exercise." Right.

On pirut have all sorts of postgresql stuff installed, so how do I even begin? No icon to click. yum install postgresql came back with nothing. How do I start this program?
