Unhappy getting linux to find my cd drive

i have burnt the slackware 9.0 iso image to a cd following the instructions on linuxISO.org (thanks david_ross). i am now trying to get the boot disks to recognize the cd drive. i have a really old comp that i am installing on so there is no boot from cd option(i have checked the bios). so far i have tried to use the slackware Bare.i and old_cd.i bootdisks but neither found my drive. the drive is a Teac SuperQuad 4X (model CD 55A)(CR-562-J) [not sure what the last thing is, it was just on the instruction manual so i thought id add it in :P]. i am not really sure what i can do to get it to work so if you have any sujestions that would be great.

This "really old" comp--does it boot up on a Win98 boot disk?
If it boots on that, does that recognize the drive?

This computer a 386? A 486? How much RAM?

Do you have a fast network connection? (I mean DSL or Cable.)

I don't have the time right now.

Google.com/linux for your drive and read a bit. It may be one of "those drives".

my linux comp is a 133mhz with 72 megs of ram,,, no the cd rom does not boot windows install disks, you have to boot by floppy, install drivers, then install windows. my linux comp is not connected to the network,,, i use my windows comp to access the internet (cable).

i checked the hardware compatibility howto and found my cdrom,,,, i just need to know how to get it to work....
