got fvwm95 installed (source, works well)
got kdm (prepackaged, came with the distro, works well ) installed

kdm offers:
kde gnome
xcfe
failsafe
enlightenment
etc...

I want it to offer fvwm95, what do I do?

I figured out, alone, the answer

create a file called /etc/X11/dm/Sessions/fvwm95.desktop
and add this to it:

[Desktop Entry]
Comment=
Comment[en_US]=
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=/etc/X11/xdm/Xsession fvwm95
GenericName=
GenericName[en_US]=
Icon=
MimeType=
Name=fvwm95
Name[en_US]=fvwm95

SwallowTitle=
Terminal=false
TerminalOptions=
Type=Application
X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false
X-KDE-Username=



create a file called /etc/X11/wmsession.d/08fvwm95
and add this to it:

NAME=fvwm95
DESC=The K Desktop Environment
EXEC=/usr/local/bin/fvwm95
SCRIPT:
exec /usr/local/bin/fvwm95

go in kcontrol, and go in login manager
under sessions, add fvwm95

don't mispell anything, of course

this applies to KDE, maybe GDM
all this for mandrake 9.2 systems having kde 3.1
