Get an error when using dd to make an ISO of a DVD

This is what occurs:

Quote:
dd if=/dev/hdc of=/mnt/captive-ntfs/athf.iso
dd: reading `/dev/hdc': Input/output error
1424+0 records in
1424+0 records out
The DVD is copy protected. Is this the source of the problem?

First of all, that might be the problem about it being copyrighted.
Secondly, why are you using dd?

Seemed like the quickest solution, as I haven't found any other software that'll make an ISO out of the disc. Any recommendations on that?

Briefly play the DVD first with a player that has libdvdcss, this will authenticate the drive and then you'll be able use dd to image it. Note: your iso will still contain encrypted files.
